Fourth Annual John “BAD DOG” McCormack Memorial 5K to support the Ronald McDonald House

“Doing a good thing for the right reasons in honor of a great man.

Race starts at Handy Park on Beale St., Saturday, May 16, at 8:00 a.m.

John “Bag Dog” McCormack spent decades on the radio making people laugh. He also spent decades supporting the Ronald McDonald House.

At 8am on Saturday, May 16, 2015, hundreds of people will gather at Handy Park on historic Beale Street to participate in a 5K race and honor a man who gave so much of himself to the kids and families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House while receiving treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A longtime champion of the mission of the House, Bad Dog broadcast the annual Ronald McDonald House Radiothon for 20 years. He raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, which serves as a “home-away-from-home,” free-of-charge for children in need and their families.

“We’re excited to honor our dear friend in this way, and pledge to carry on his legacy of caring and support for the children and families of the House though this fun, fundraising event,” says race director Julianne Tutko. “In our first three years we raised nearly $20,000 for The House with a goal of continuing to grow the event year after year.”

Registration is $30 per person and includes a short-sleeve tech shirt. Registration is available online until midnight Thursday, May 14th at www.baddog5k.racesonline.com. Participants may also register in person on May 15th at Republic Coffee from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., or on race day at Handy Park beginning at 6:30 a.m. Mail In Registration must be postmarked by Monday, May 11th.

The Memphis Runners Track Club will support the race as well as measuring the all new course. The course begins and ends on Beale Street at Handy Park including a run down Front Street past the Memphis Farmer’s Market and Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken.

The Bad Dog Memorial 5K is hosted by the Beale Street Management Corporation. Sponsors include the Natural Awakenings, Valpak of Memphis & the Mid South, Bluff City Sports, Memphis Runners Track Club, Breakaway Running, McDonald’s, Kellogg’s, and a host of local businesses.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

“We want to urge friends and fans of Bad Dog, as well as everyone who believes in the good work being done by St. Jude and the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis to come out to the Bad Dog 5K and enjoy a morning of fun for a good cause,” Tutko says.
